2026 Treaty Day Payments and Annuity Update for Robinson Huron Treaty

Treaty payments for the Robinson Huron Treaty territory continue to be $4.00 per person in 2026, the same amount paid since 1875. The Treaty was signed in 1850 and includes a promise to increase payments if the land produces enough to do so without loss.

A court decision in 2024 confirmed that not increasing the payment was a breach of the Treaty. In 2024, a $10 billion settlement was reached for past breaches, but future increases to the payments have not been decided yet.

For now, payments continue as before, and officials are working together to figure out fair ways to increase the payments based on the land's productivity and community needs. The leaders involved want to make sure the agreement supports strong, prosperous communities connected to their lands now and for the future generations of Anishinaabe families.
